The Children’s commissioner has warned that children as young as eight are signing up to social media terms and conditions without reading or understanding the agreements they are entering.

Let’s be honest, that probably goes for a lot of adults too – and most of these lengthy legal documents that we never bother to read include some rather unexpected clauses. Here are some of the more wide-reaching and most bizarre.

Facebook obtains the permission to use any of your public posts, photographs or videos for anything, anywhere in the world, without paying you – and to sell them to others to do the same. You also agree to your name, your picture, and your content appearing in connection with commercial, sponsored, or related content.

New role for Mass Communications graduate in Malaysia

Aaron On has recently been appointed as an Education and Outreach Executive with the University of Hertfordshire.

As a recent graduate of the Mass Communications programme within the School of Humanities in the United Kingdom, Aaron will be bringing a wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge and personal experience to his new job.

Aaron will be working closely with colleagues in our regional office in Kuala Lumpur to facilitate talks, counselling sessions,and presentations by UH academics across Malaysia and Singapore. He will also be creating content for our social media platforms across the region.

Amazon unveils plans for grocery shop with no checkouts – BBC News

Customers will be able to select items and walk out without waiting to pay at the Amazon Go shop.

This is the way of the future. Earlier this year I attended an Adobe conference where these innovations were discussed. One of the issues raised was the possibility that the phone needs rights to access your bank account and make withdrawals automatically. Also if you go back into the shop, how can you be sure that the shop does not withdraw payment again for a purchase made earlier in the day.

Launched today, fact check will now appear as a label among news search results alongside other labels such as opinion, local source and highly cited

In the midst of a highly charged presidential election, where fact and fiction have frequently become confused, Google News has introduced a new fact check feature in search results for news stories.

Your Final Year: Making the most of it

Welcome to all our final year students!

All Level 6 Humanities and Mass Communications students are invited to an afternoon of presentations and interactive workshops aimed at helping you to make the most of your final year of study.

The afternoon is a valuable opportunity to hear from a range of speakers and to participate  in some interactive workshops, all designed to help you tackle the challenges and opportunities of the year ahead but also to think about what happens after you graduate.

Sessions will include:

  • managing your final year – hear from some of our graduates
  • how to develop and hone study skills specific to Level 6 such as planning, time management and writing dissertations/longer projects
  • polishing your presentation skills
  • how to recognise the value of the transferable skills that you have developed during your time as Mass Communication/Humanities students
